The second season of the anime series, YAIBA: Samurai Legend, subtitled the Kaguya Arc, has announced its official premiere date of January 9, 2027. Alongside this announcement, a new main visual for the upcoming season has been released. The anime is an adaptation of Gosho Aoyama’s manga, with its first season having aired last year.

Production Details and Visual

WIT STUDIO is handling the animation for YAIBA: Samurai Legend Season 2. Takahiro Hasui is directing the anime, with Toko Machida responsible for the series composition. Yoshimichi Kameda serves as both character designer and chief animation director. Studio Kurm is credited with animation production cooperation for this season. The newly revealed main visual depicts Yaiba wielding the Thunder God Sword in opposition to Onimaru’s Wind God Sword.

Studio Kurm, a CyberAgent subsidiary established on October 1, 2025, has Maiko Okada as its president. Okada previously worked as an animation producer on the first season of YAIBA: Samurai Legend, which credited WIT STUDIO for animation production. For the second season, WIT STUDIO remains the main animation studio, with Studio Kurm providing animation production cooperation.

About the Series

The original YAIBA manga series was written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama, known for creating *Magic Kaito* and *Case Closed/Detective Conan*. It was serialized in Shogakukan’s *Weekly Shonen Sunday* from September 1988 to December 1993. An earlier anime adaptation by studio Pastel aired for 52 episodes from April 1993 to April 1994.

The story centers on Yaiba Kurogane, a young man who returns to Japan after training to be a samurai in the jungle. He moves in with the Mine family, and after a confrontation with a kendo practitioner named Takeshi Onimaru, an ancient power awakens.
