TOHO animation has released a new trailer for the third season of The Apothecary Diaries anime. The trailer features the announcement that Eve will perform the ending theme song, titled "AIYOU."

The third season is scheduled to begin airing on October 2 at 11:00 p.m. in Japan, as part of the "Friday Anime Night" programming block on NTV and its 29 affiliated channels. This initial broadcast will cover the first cours of the season, with the second cours set to premiere in April 2027.

In addition to the ending theme, the trailer also revealed that yorushika will perform the opening theme song for the third season, titled "Kumo o Nukekazashimo e Watashidake" (I Am Alone, Breaking Through the Clouds Downwind). Reina Ueda is joining the cast for the third season, voicing the character Bai Niangniang.

Franchise Expansions

Beyond the upcoming third season, The Apothecary Diaries franchise has other projects in development. A new film, titled Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Bо̄hi no Hihо̄ (The Apothecary Diaries: The Deceased Empress' Treasure), is slated to open in theaters on December 11. This film will feature a new story penned by Hyuganatsu, the author of the original novel series.

Furthermore, a live-action series adaptation of The Apothecary Diaries is in production and is expected to debut globally on Amazon Prime Video in 2028.

Previous Seasons and Story

The first season of The Apothecary Diaries anime premiered in October 2023 and ran for two cours. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan and also provided an English dub. The second season followed, premiering in January 2025 on Nippon TV's FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT block, also airing for two consecutive cours, with Crunchyroll again streaming the season and its English dub.

The story of The Apothecary Diaries centers on Maomao, a young woman with a sharp mind and extensive knowledge of medicine. Her life takes a turn when the head eunuch, Jinshi, uncovers her abilities and appoints her as a lady-in-waiting to the Emperor's favorite consort, tasking her with tasting the consort's food for poison.
