A new TV anime adaptation of the long-running manga series Oishinbo is slated for release in 2027. The announcement, made via the anime's official website, also included details regarding the main voice cast and a new teaser visual for the upcoming series. This new anime project follows the original Oishinbo manga, which began serialization in 1983 and has accumulated over 135 million copies in circulation across 111 collected volumes.
Main Cast Revealed
The newly announced main cast features Yohei Azakami in the leading role as Shiro Yamaoka, a gourmet journalist. Joining him are Hitomi Sasaki, who will voice Yuko Kurita, and Akio Otsuka, cast as Yuzan Kaibara. These actors will bring the central characters of the culinary-themed story to life in the new adaptation.
Oishinbo centers on the creation of the “Ultimate Menu” for the Tōzai News, a project commissioned as part of the publisher's 100th-anniversary celebrations. The original manga, created by Tetsu Kariya and Akira Hanasaki, was serialized in Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits magazine from October 1983 until it went on indefinite hiatus in May 2014. The series has previously inspired a 136-episode anime adaptation by studio Shin-Ei Animation, which aired from October 1988 to March 1992, as well as two anime films and a live-action film.
