The anime adaptation of Sumiko Arai's popular manga, *The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All*, is officially scheduled to premiere on January 8, 2027, in Japan. This announcement followed the release of a new trailer at New York Comic Con. Fans outside of Japan will be able to stream the series on Crunchyroll when it debuts next year.

The production staff for the anime has also been detailed. Masashi Ishihama will direct the series at CloverWorks, with Rino Yamasaki handling the series composition. Kanna Hirayama is responsible for the character designs. The main cast includes Mariya Ise as Mitsuki Koga and Akari Kito as Aya Osawa. The opening theme song for the series will be "Breed" by Nirvana.

Manga's Journey to Anime

The original *The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All* manga by Sumiko Arai first gained traction when it was posted on X (formerly Twitter) in 2022. It is currently serialized online on Pixiv Comic and in print by Kadokawa Shoten, with its print serialization beginning in April 2023. To date, four volumes have been released in Japan. Yen Press publishes an official English version of the manga.

Prior to the anime, the series also saw a drama CD adaptation released in April 2024, featuring Akari Kito as Aya and Mariya Ise as Mitsuki, reprising their roles for the upcoming anime. The story follows fashionable high schooler Aya, who enjoys rock music.
