Sanrio announced on October 31 that a new feature-length anime movie starring its mascot character Kuromi is in production. The film is slated for a 2027 release in theaters across Japan. October 31 also marks Kuromi's birthday. Details regarding the international release of the movie will be announced at a later date.

Accompanying the announcement, an official website and X (formerly Twitter) account for the movie were launched. Fans can also view a video message from Kuromi herself, alongside an announcement visual for the film. Kuromi shared a comment, expressing her excitement and thanking her supporters, referred to as "KUROMIES."

Kuromi's Growing Popularity

Kuromi first appeared as a character in Sanrio's inaugural TV anime series, *Onegai My Melody*, which aired for four seasons between 2005 and 2009. Over time, she developed a significant following, leading to an expansion of her activities and ventures.

Her rising popularity led to her becoming the main character in the web anime series *KUROMI'S PRETTY JOURNEY*, which streamed on YouTube in 2023. Further showcasing her widespread appeal, Kuromi made her major debut as an artist under the name "KUROMI" with TOY'S FACTORY in October 2025. Sanrio's official website describes Kuromi as a tomboy who, despite her tough exterior, enjoys writing in her diary and reading romance novels.
