A new anime awards ceremony, the Nippon Anime Awards, is set to debut in Japan. The inaugural event is scheduled for November 21, 2027, and will take place at SGC Hall Ariake in Tokyo. This announcement was made on November 2 during the closing event of TOKYO ANIME NEXT.
The Association of Japanese Animations (AJA), in collaboration with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, is organizing the awards. Kazuko Ishikawa, chairperson of the AJA, unveiled the official concept for the awards: "Moving Frames. Moving Hearts. Moving the World." The Nippon Anime Awards aim to celebrate achievements in Japanese animation, recognizing both outstanding anime works and the individuals behind them.
Goals and Support for the Anime Industry
Beyond the awards ceremony itself, the initiative will include programs designed to create new business opportunities for the anime industry and foster the next generation of talent. Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike expressed support for the awards, stating that the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will continue to strongly support anime and everyone involved in its creation.
Ishikawa responded to the governor's message, expressing hope to further expand the appeal and potential of anime globally and build that future together with the industry. The announcement follows an October 30 discussion at TIFFCOM, where anime industry representatives first discussed the planned awards, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the people working behind anime productions.

The TIFFCOM discussion featured several prominent figures from the anime industry, including AJA director and A-1 Pictures president Akira Shimizu, Studio Chizu president Yuichiro Saito, and Toho animation division chief manager Masaya Saito.
